Roy D. Edwards

Roy Daniel Edwards passed away on August 7, 2015, at the age of 89. He was born in Pine Lawn, Missouri, on November 6, 1925.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; his children Sandee (Larry) DeWitt, Denise Radford and Jeff Edwards; grandchildren Jason (Lianne) Kinworthy, Joseph DeWitt, Crystal (Chris) Johns, Sarah Quinn and Luke Quinn and great-grandchildren Kurt Nye, Lilly Nguyen, Kaylin Le, James Conwaski and Logan Johns.

Roy was a proud veteran of the the United States army, serving in Patton’s Third Army in the European and Pacific-Asiatic Theaters during World War II. A long-time member of the Machinists union, he retired from Boeing (McDonnell Douglas) in Saint Louis in 1988. Roy was a talented artist, studying commercial art before going to work for McDonnell Douglas. He was a well-known and respected model railroader who painted locomotive models for Merle Haggard’s collection, among others. A self-taught carpenter, he built two of his own homes. He was a master landscaper and gardener and he loved mixing concrete to build water gardens and other projects. He was a long-time member of the Commemorative Air Force in Saint Charles.

A military service will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. on August 18. Those wishing to attend should gather in the Jefferson Barracks administration building no later than 12:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roy’s name to Gateway Pet Guardians, 5321 Manchester Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110, (314) 664-7398.

    Dear Marie and family,
    Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I just watched the video and you should be proud of all the wonderful memories you have of a great man and hero.
