Shaaron Cosner
It is with great sadness that the family of Shaaron Louise (Bigelow) Cosner announces her passing on the evening of September 25, 2023.
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Lieutenant Colonel Roy F. Bigelow, Jr. and Jewel Louise (Brian) Bigelow, Shaaron traveled the world while her father served in the Air Force. Eventually settling in Tempe, Arizona, she attended Arizona State University earning a Bachelor of Arts in English and eventually a Master’s of Arts in English. Her time at ASU also inspired her lifelong love of football.
Shaaron worked as a journalist, professional photographer, high school English teacher, an author, and a college adjunct professor. She moved to St. Charles, Missouri to be closer to her grandchildren in 2008.
Shaaron wrote 12 children’s nonfiction books and two for grownups. She was always on the lookout for new book topics and adventures. She took and developed her own pictures in a darkroom in the bathroom. This inspired her children, and eventually her grandchildren and great grandchildren, to always learn and explore the world around them.
After retirement, Shaaron could be found in front of her television during football season cheering on her beloved Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, or watching birds and other wildlife frolicking outside her window.
She is survived by her sisters, Pamela Bigelow and Katherine Bigelow; her daughter, Victoria Cosner; seven grandchildren (Casey, Brett, Cynthia, Aaron, Joseph, Sydney, and Alexis); a nephew (Zachary); and four great-grandchildren (Oliver, Jaxyn, Marlee, and Lucille).
She was predeceased by her son, Robert, and her parents, Roy and Louise. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that you make a donation in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association. Details for a memorial in Tempe, AZ will be announced at a later date.
Dear family,
Please accept my belated condolences for Shaaron. We taught together in the English Department at Corona del Sol HIgh School for many years. Shaaron inspired and helped me to become a freelance writer. We often attended writing conferences together and book author luncheons. I took the photo of her with Stephen KIng while he signed a book for her. I delighted to see that photo! It brought back many fine memories of a great lady who was always ready to be helpful, not only to students but interested adults, in the most amazing ways.
Blessings to you and your family. She leaves behind a great legacy.
From Spain.
I am reading a book called “war nurses”. Good book. She lived a peaceful life with great passion and happiness.
Hello to all of you.
