Sharon Kay Heisel
Sharon Heisel (Dunn), 77, died on March 25, 2024 from breast cancer complications.
After earning her Journalism degree from the University of Missouri–Columbia in 1969, Sharon spent most of her career in service of education. She did public relations and marketing at Fontbonne College. And then went to work at the Voluntary Interdistrict Choice Corporation (VICC) designing, writing, editing, and art directing their publications and marketing materials.
Sharon was dedicated to her family, friends, and work. She always made time to help her kids with science fair projects, sewing elaborate Halloween costumes, and taking them to St. Louis institutions she loved like the zoo, art museum, and the Muny. She planned family road trips every year, visiting state and national parks around the country. She met regularly with lifelong friends from Southwest High School and Mizzou. She took up cross stitching, making stitcher friends at events and shops around the country. Her work life was marked by passion, perfectionism, and generosity. She was always there to help a coworker, or their family.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Gary; her son Christopher (Erica); her son Jason (Katie) and grandson James. She was preceded in death by her mother Ruth Dunn, and father Charles.
There are no events planned, as Sharon did not wish to have services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Institute in her memory.
