Stephen Burton
Stephen (Steve) Burton passed away July 26, 2023. Steve was born to James and Lucille Burton. He married Patricia in 1971.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and survived by his wife, Patricia; children: Steve (Catherine), Bob (Jessica), Chris, Nikki, and Suzi; and grandchildren: Christie, Starr, Erik, Ella, Austin, James, and Sura.
Steve was a loving father, husband, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. He is loving, kind, responsible, and reasonable. He was humorous, quick-witted, and intelligent. Steve was a nature-loving fisherman. He also enjoyed wood-working and tinkering in his garage. He was the “Super-Papa.” Steve was the fixer of most everything. He was a mechanical engineer who loved his job. He loved to teach his children and grandchildren how to fix cars and pretty much anything.
Some of Steve’s famous quotes:
“When the only tool you have is a screwdriver, you tend to screw everything up.”
“They say with age comes wisdom, after all these years I’m still waiting for wisdom to catch up.”
“Once I had an original thought, then I immediately forgot it so no one else could have it.”
“I see things differently than most people, then I clean my glasses.”
“There is one valuable life lesson I have learned in my many years, I just wish I could remember what it was.”
He is dearly missed by all of his loved ones.
Steve will be missed. He DID always have a smile. May he rest on peace.

My dad was always quick with a joke! He loved to show me how to fix things. He will always be in my heart. I will think of him everytine I see a pabst or anytime I go fishing. I will miss and love you forever!!
Steve was always funny and smart. He was the first person I worked with at Emerson and he taught me so much. He was a true friend. Chris and I will deeply miss you.
So sad. Was hoping to visit Steve this year. Our deepest sympathies to Pat & family. I have many memories of him at work and at the annual float trips. RIP Steve.
Every in counter I had with Steve, either at work or social was a pleasant encounter. And Steve always had a smile on his face. Made you feel good.
Dad, I miss you so much! I don’t have all the right words recently. But we understood each other like no other. I’ll always be your little shadow. It’s harder knowing/ understanding the pain you suffered for so long. See you soon enough. You will always be my super hero to have gone through so much with a smile and great attitude!
I worked with Steve for several years at Emerson as an lab technician.
When I met him, I knew nothing about Mechanical Engineering. Steve immediately began teaching me anything and everything he could.
What I realized, after a couple of years, was that Steve Burton was a “MECHANICAL GENIUS.
Steve came up with an idea for a new bearing design and gave me the privilege to help execute the design. It worked beyond even Steve’s expectations and completely amazed me and anybody he demonstrated it to.
Steve Burton was so generous that he included my name on the patent application. I was so humbled.
I know people were hurt by Steve’s passing but we all lost an incredible man.
