Thomas Spencer Jr. — the son, the child, the young man, the adult, the friend, the Uncle, the citizen. After 71 years of service, Thomas Jr. is at rest!
The journey began exactly two years after his sister Mary was born, September 3, 1952. Great Britain and the U.S. signed the Treaty of Paris in 1783 to end The Revolutionary War, Fredrick Douglas made his dramatic escape from slavery in 1838. September 3rd also marks Labor Day, and actor Charlie Sheen was born on that day.
But, in Starkville, Mississippi, Thomas Sr. and Ervene Spencer gave birth to their fourth out of six children. Berniece was the oldest, then Linda who preceded him in death, Mary was next, a middle child along with Thomas Jr., then Earlene and John.
Thomas was a very curious and inquisitive child. He completed his elementary studies in the St. Louis Public School. He earned his certificate to complete high school. Thomas was fondly known as “Bud” to family and friends. He was a dedicated and diligent worker. He had many friends and acquaintances throughout his life. As a young child and man, he attended United Holiness Church under the leadership of Pastor Bradford. He supported activities in the community and at home with friends and family support. He was well-known for his wit and funny stories.
On January 7, 2024, God summoned Thomas Jr. to his side. He leaves to cherish his devoted siblings — Mary Sykes (Billy), Earlene Roseman, and John Spencer. Neices — Nikki Johnson, LaManda Goodrich (Lagato), Tresa Roseman, Ericka Piphus, Lisa Spencer (Oregon), Tammie Perkins (Texas), Lawanda Donaldson (Jonathon), Michelle Chatman (Jermaine); nephew — Tommie Perkins. He had many cousins, great nieces and nephews, friends and associates.
