Thomas “Tom” Lovis
Thomas “Tom” Lovis, passed away in his home at the Sheridan in Laumeier Park on Saturday, December 5th, of respiratory distress made worse by Covid-19 and Alzheimer’s related health issues.
Tom was born at Mt. Pleasant, PA and raised in Indianapolis. He went to Indiana School for the Deaf and was printer in Indiana before he went onto the St. Louis Post Dispatch from 1969 until his retirement in 1982. During his full time work at the Post Dispatch, Tom was a part time Pastor at the Bethany Baptist Church of the Deaf which later changed to Bethany Deaf Church. After his retirement, Tom became a full time Pastor until the church closed in 2011.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Stanley Lovis and Martha Elizabeth Zipcak; his wife, Joan Mae Lewis; brother, Bob Lovis and his son, Tom Lovis Jr. He is survived by his brother Frank Lovis and his sister, Carol Lovis; daughters, Tamara (Keith) McCart and Tina (Ron) Carter; grandchildren, Justin Swisher, TJ Lovis, Joshua Lovis, Travis Baker and Tiffany Gupta and great-grandchildren, Ty and Mackenzie Swisher and Caden and Blaine Baker.
Rest in Peace brother. Your last few years were not what retirement was meanr to be. You will be missed here on earth.
