Tom Lindzy
In Loving Memory of Thomas Carl Lindzy
“Tom”
January 7, 1947 – May 6, 2020
Tom Lindzy passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home in Hazelwood, MO on May 6, 2020 due to heart complications. Tom was born in Mishawaka, IN on January 7, 1947 to the late Carl D. Lindzy and Dorothy A. (Vanderbosch) Lindzy. Tom spent most of his childhood in South Bend, IN and attended St. Anthony Grade School. He graduated from John Adams High School in 1965 where he met his high school sweetheart, the late Diane Marie (Riley) Lindzy and they were married November 25, 1967. Tom studied Architecture at Kent State University prior to enlisting in the United States Air Force and being stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL where he became a certified Meteorological Equipment Repairer. After military service, Tom joined the Rantoul Police Department and was selected by the State of Illinois to attend the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. He returned to the police force in Rantoul and rose to the rank of Chief of Police. Tom was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church and served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. While in Rantoul, he held several civic and community leadership positions including being the President of the Jaycees, a St. Malachy School Board member, and a Board Member of The Village of Rantoul. Tom worked for People’s Choice TV in Rantoul, Chicago, Milwaukee, and relocated with his family to St. Louis with People’s Choice TV (later the Sprint Corporation). In St. Louis, Tom also worked in assisted living and nursing facilities alongside his wife, Diane, who was a Registered Nurse. Tom held various positions including Activities Director and Maintenance Department Technician as he was an excellent handyman. After retirement, Tom (and Diane) visited their grandchildren and other family members as often as possible where they made many special memories together. Tom enjoyed relaxing on the deck of his condominium and having nice conversations with nearby neighbors. He maintained beautiful landscaping around his home and usually kept a small vegetable garden. Tom was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing in his free time, especially with his grandchildren or at his time-share at Lost Valley Lake. He liked watching police and crime investigation shows such as Walker Texas Ranger, In the Heat of the Night, The A-Team, Magnum P.I., Blue Bloods, Law and Order, NCIS and M*A*S*H. Tom loved to go to “the boat” for entertainment and to play Slots and Keno; he enjoyed treating his family and friends to dinner there too. Tom was a devoted fan of any sport of interest of his grandchildren, making sure to attend as many of their events as possible. He was a fan of University of Notre Dame Athletics, and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball. Tom will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He will be remembered as a kind and giving man who did whatever he could for anyone that needed help no matter the circumstance. Tom is survived by his two sons: Mark A. (Jennifer) Lindzy of Ethridge, TN and Michael S. (Terri) Lindzy of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren: Molly Lindzy (Devin) Duffell of Raleigh, NC and Alan J. Lindzy of Ethridge, TN, Megan D. Lindzy and Hannah J. Lindzy of St. Louis; sister Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Fleming of Ooltewah, TN and brother James Charles “Jim” Lindzy of Elkhart, IN; and many beloved nephews, nieces, and God-children. Tom was preceded in death by both of his parents and by Diane, his adoring wife of 49 years and 7 months. Tom’s final wishes were to be cremated and placed beside his beloved wife Diane at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO where he will receive military honors.
Very nice obituary Mark/Mike. I know how hard it can be to do one of these. I love you both, and make sure we keep in contact.
Uncle Jim
Mark/ Mike..I am so sorry to hear about Tom..I went to Adams High with Tom and Diane…the last time I saw them was at Diane and my 50th High School reunion..Diane was even in my wedding and I attended she and Tom’s wedding..I also went to your grandpa funeral
( Hershel). Tom seemed pretty good at both those events. We had such a good visit at the reunion..it was so fun. I so glad one of your wives forwarded the notice that Tom died to his Facebook friends, or never would had known. Did he have heart problems for a long time? I hate death…again, so sorry…
We love you and your family. In our prayers and hearts. ????????????
Sending love to Mark, Mike and your families. Please keep in touch with your Indiana family. I will miss Tom, as I cherish memories of him. I sure loved him. Sleep well, Tom! Enjoy eternity with Di, Aunt Dot and Unkie.

Family and friends-
I would like to take the time to thank everyone for the kind words and support through this hard time. My father was a great man and I have had sad moments and angry moments through this but I am proud to have been his son. My father was not a perfect person just like the rest of us but he made sure I grew up with the morals and respect that he grew up with. That foundation I got from him is what made me the man I am today.
Seeing these comments plays a huge part in my healing process and it just goes to show how great of a man he was.
Thank you all,
Michael Lindzy
I knew Tom (and Diane) for more than 14 years. He was one of the most kind, generous and helpful man I had ever known. He was a listener, comforter and an all-around great man. Tom and Diane welcomed me into their family here in St. Louis with open arms and kind hearts. My fondest memory was the 3 of us sitting in front of the TV chopping cauliflower to make soup while watching the Notre Dame football games every Saturday. Tom (and Diane) were my best friends and I will miss him so much. My thoughts, deepest sympathy and prayers are with his family. RIP TC.
I will remember Tom as a kind man with a good heart. He was also quite the handyman. My life is better for having had known him.
Tom was such a caring person and wonderful friend. I was blessed to have known him and may he Rest In Peace. He helped me, my son and mom in so many ways for many years. So very sorry for your loss.
Remember him well from high school. Jim and Sharon Kish
I remember classmate A1C Lindzy very well. We are in class together for 34 weeks at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL. I have a photo of him the family may not have. I will email it if they want it.
