Greg was born in St. Louis, Mo. to Leroy and Norma (Polette) Stone. He is survived by his sisters Dorothy (Beck/Haupt) and Norma Jean (Stefanic), his children, Ruthann (Dan) Schweiger, Pamela (John) Valenti, Laura (Steve/Pete) Campbell, Donna (John) Lynch, Greg Jr. (Kim), Jeff (Cherie), Bob (Karen), Debbie (Scott) Roberts, David (Kelly) and Kevin (Connie). Greg was blessed with 32 grandchildren, Karen, Cindy, Danny, Andrea, Michelle, Johnny, Jesseca, James, Lisa, Janet, Scotty, Paula, Amy, Matthew, Lee Ann, Brian, Jennifer, Sarah, Julie, Andrew, Zachary, Carrie, Shannah, Nicholas, Connor, Sierra, Sophie, Evan, Gabriel, Benjamin, Sydney and Josh, 53 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held with arrangements forthcoming.

Greg served his country in the Missouri National Guard from 1951 to 1953. While in the service he was activated and was sent to Korea where he built airstrips. Greg met Ruth when he crashed her party in the summer of 1949. After the party he told his friends that she was the one he was going to marry. His friends thought he was nuts. On April 21, 1951 he married Ruth Hart.

Greg loved to travel and went on many trips with Ruth and his children. He was able to complete his dreams of visiting the Church in Great Bromley, England where his family immigrated from in 1635. One of his goals was to visit all 50 states and he was able to accomplish that goal when he visited Oregon, the last state on his quest. One of his favorite trips he took was in July of 2018. Greg was honored to take a trip with the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight to Washington D.C. While in Washington D. C. he had the honor to meet with Senator Bob Dole and spoke highly of his conversation with him.

He was a 64 year member of Local # 6, I.A.T.S.E, working as a stagehand through the years. His favorite accomplishment during that time was being able to be on the top of the Arch with a film crew when the last piece of the Arch was put into place.

Through the years he coached various sports teams for his children and grand children and was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 827 where he saw three of his sons earn the rank of Eagle Scout. His hobbies included feeding the cardinals, squirrels and rabbits. He would put peanuts on the porch ledge every day for the squirrels and would enjoy watching them pick them up and disappear with them. He enjoyed researching his family history and spent hours visiting the cemeteries where his loved ones are laid to rest. He loved to do woodworking projects and through the years he made rocking chairs, baby beds, rocking elephants and a variety of other projects for his kids, grandkids, great grandkids and great-great grandkids. He was an avid coin collector and completed his penny collection by being gifted the last three coins for his collection.

He is now in heaven dancing among the stars with his wife. He will be missed by many.

Greg had requested before his death that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight in his name.
