John “Jack” Ellis

John Ernest Ellis, 89 of St. Louis, MO, peacefully passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021 surrounded by his family. John was born September 4, 1931 to Willard Marvin Ellis and Stella Mae (nee Garner) Ellis. He was born, spent his childhood, graduated from high school, and met his wife in St. Louis, MO.

On October 23, 1952, John was united in marriage to his late wife, Georgia Mae (nee Gunter) Ellis. This -63-year union was blessed with four children, Jackie (Don) Howell of O’Fallon, MO., Brian (Diane) Ellis of Des Peres, MO., Dana (Mark) Cornwell of Manchester, MO., and Richard Ellis of Alton, IL.

John was in the United States Army and served in Europe during the Korean conflict. When he returned home he worked in the finance sector and retired from Household Finance Corporation as Manager after 38 years. His passions were spending time traveling with his family, fly fishing and following the St. Louis Cardinals.

He was the devoted grandfather of David (Rhoda) Howell, Jennifer Howell, Dan (Leslie) Henderson, Katie Ellis, and Natalie Cornwell. He was the great-grandfather of Ruby, Audra, and West Howell, Kailley Pickle and Boston Cavanaugh.

In addition to his wife and parents, John is preceded in death by one brother, Donald Ellis and his granddaughter, Lani Pickle.

A private committal service is planned at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
