William Walters
Surrounded by his immediate family, William J. Walters, of St. Louis, MO, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021. Bill was preceded in passing by his parents, William and Helen Walters, and by his younger brother Edward, all of St. Mary, MO. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Lou-Ann (Winchel), and his five children – Vicki, Jeff, Cindy, Julie, and Bill. He was a loving father, and a grandfather to fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A faith-filled man, Bill was active in the Catholic faith his entire life, predominantly as a member of St. Timothy’s and then St. Mark’s parish. He was the principal driver and then owner/operator of Walters Pony Express, a same-day delivery service founded by his father and in successful operation until his retirement in 2002. He was an avid sports fan and athlete, enjoying immensely participating in bicycling, recreational volleyball, and attending any and all sporting events his children and grandchildren participated in. Of course, he always rooted for his St. Louis Cardinals. Bill was a loving, caring, and genuine husband, father, and friend to many. He is now and will always be missed by all who love him.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark Catholic Church, 4220 Ripa Ave., St. Louis, MO 63125 on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. Visitation will be prior to Mass, 8:30 to 9:30. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice NAMI or St. Mark Catholic Church.
My condolences to Lou Ann and their children and grandchildren on the passing of our dear friend Billie Joe. He was a life-long friend of Dick Okenfuss and our family. When in highschool he could be found playing many sports with Dick and their buddies. Bill many times would stay at Dick’s parents’ home when school and sports occupied their time late in the day. May God keep you in His loving care.
Julie Okenfuss and our extended family
