King Pok Lai

Brother King Pok Lai was born in Shunde on June 29, 1932. He was the second son of ten children born to Mr. and Mrs. Pak Chiu Lai of Shunde Longshan of Guangdong.

He studied at Christian schools and was exposed to the gospel at an early age. He studied at Pui Ching School in Guangzhou, Yuet Wah College in Macau and St. Paul’s College in Hong Kong. Upon graduation from The University of Hong Kong, he taught history in high school. He later served as the chair of the history department and then as a principal of the high school. King Pok worked diligently in education for more than thirty years.

In 1966, he married his first love, Shau Shan Lee, whom he had known since his teenage years. They had a son, Hing Hung Henry Lai, and had four grandchildren. In 1988, King Pok immigrated to Houston and was a paralegal and a real estate agent. He also served as a nursing home activity director. King Pok was humble, gentle, and hardworking. He was also polite, loyal, and practical.

He was a dedicated father and husband. King Pok enjoyed collecting stamps, gardening, reading, and traveling. After he was diagnosed with cancer, he received the Lord with the guidance of Minister Linh Phan, and was baptized by Pastor Jing Cai Zhu.

On June 1, 2021, Brother Lai went with the Lord at the age of 88. He passed peacefully surrounded by his wife, son, and daughter-in-law.
