Melissa B. Guttman

Melissa B. Guttman, born in Creve Coeur, MO on January 15, 1980, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 8, 2021, at the too-young age of 41. She is lovingly remembered by her parents, Dr. Mark and Kathy Guttman, her dear sister Kari (Matt) Frazier, her beloved niece and nephews Annabelle, Oliver, and Wyatt Frazier, her dear grandmother Celeste Schriefer, her dear Aunt Linda and Uncle Bill Schriefer, dear Uncle John Schriefer, dear cousins and many special friends.

Melissa loved education, both as a student and as a teacher. She attended Maryville University where she received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in school counseling. She obtained her second master’s degree in special education from Fontbonne University. She was universally respected and loved by students and coworkers throughout her career, especially at Sorrento Springs in Parkway and Buder Elementary in the Ritenour School District, where she worked until she was hospitalized for the last time.

Melissa loved spending time with family and friends, knitting, arts and crafts, gifting people with handmade creations, hiking in the woods, traveling, bingeing tv shows, anything related to sea turtles, and especially caring for and cuddling with her kitties, Leo and Lily.

As per her wishes, she was cremated. There will be a memorial service and celebration of her life in late summer at Bellerive Gardens Cemetery; details to be announced.

Melissa was such a sweetheart and great friend to our family. Lorrie and Connor loved when she babysat for them. She took great care of Sherlock too when she cat sat. She would hang out with him for a while so he wouldn’t be lonely, instead of just coming in and doing the basics. She was a very compassionate and loving person and we will miss her.
