Thomas Peter Goethel, 94
Ellisville, Missouri – Thomas Peter Goethel “Peter” died Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Missouri Baptist Hospital of respiratory arrest, not Covid related.
Born, July 17, 1926 in Duluth, Minnesota, St. Louis County. He lived in Ellisville, Missouri for the past 5 years. Previously lived in Southern California and Sudbury Massachusetts. He was a Mechanical Engineer, from Northeastern University. He received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Northeastern University, College of Engineering in June of 1953. He also was a Registered Professional Engineer. Granted by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Board of Registration of Profession Engineers and of Land Surveyors in February of 1960. He was of the Episcopal faith.
He was widowed in January 2003 to his sweetheart of over 55 years, Eleanor Elizabeth Goethel “Ollie”, who passed away at 76 in January 2003. He is survived by his sons, Peter E. Goethel of Oceanside; Karl James Goethel on Denver, NC; Steven Peter Goethel of Julian, CA and his daughter Janet E. Lyon of Ellisville, MO. He had 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Peter lived a full life and had a variety of hobbies. Including boating, fishing, woodworking and was a crossword puzzle, Sudoku aficionado. He enlisted in The Coast Guard in 1943 at 17 and served in WWII. These were some of his fondest memories. He also loved to hunt and fish with his buddies in Canada,
His cremains will be placed in Fort Rosecrans Cemetery in Point Loma, California next to his beloved wife. He will have a military burial with Coast Guard Honors, which he strongly wanted. He loved his country and saluted the flag every morning.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donation to the American Lung Association.
Mr G always had a smile for any of the friends of his children. He was loved by all of us. He made knowing the Goethels fun. I can remember the stories of Massachusetts and love and laughter that came from both Mr and Mrs G. He was a fantastic family man and loved his family. I already miss Pete, even though I haven’t seen him in some years. He was always a lot of fun to be around, and as a teenager, I remember being a member of the “cool dad” club, even if he did make us work in the machine shop in the garage. That summer I spent in Cali was one of the best times of my life and will remember it always! Love all you guys and hope you will be okay getting through this. I will keep you in my prayers.

My memory of Mr. Goethel goes back to Sudbury, Mass. when I was in elementary school. “It was the best of times”. My father stayed in touch with Mr. Goethel up until a few months ago. That says a lot about long lasting friendship.

I know Uncle Pete will be missed by many, I was only 12 when he and aunt Ollie were so generous to have me come from Boston and spend the summer with them.Uncle Pete was so cool to spend time with, so smart so funny,I learned so much from him!. I still remember how much we laughed together watching the movie In Laws together. He allowed me to work in the shop with Pete jr,,so so much fun.he allowed and showed me just how many wonderful things life could bring me through hard work.He opened my mind to thinking about things and possibilities that are there for me to achieve in life, and then there was all the fun activities he gave me access to,through his such wonderful wonderful children! Who I could see parts of him in each one of them.
Thank you Uncle Pete for one of the most fondest memorable times of my life!
