Joann Elizabeth (Hoffmann) Steinbrueck
Joann Steinbrueck was born at DePaul Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri on February, 27, 1936, and was taken to the Lord on August 1, 2021, at her home at Village North Retirement Community, North County St. Louis, Missouri.
Joann was the daughter of the late Edward and Marie (nee Joeckel) Hoffmann.
Beloved wife of her high school sweetheart and devoted husband of nearly 65 years, Leon Steinbrueck, she is survived by her four loving children and their families: Randy, wife Lisa, of Palmyra, Missouri; David, wife Mary Liz, of Normal, Illinois, Debbie of Fenton, Missouri; and Laurie, husband Dennis Barnett, of Ballwin, Missouri.
She was blessed with five Granddaughters and one Grandson: Joy, husband Daniel Kimbril of Winterville, North Carolina; Faith, husband Jack O’Connor of Palmyra, Missouri; Kyle Steinbrueck, wife Mackenzie of Whitestown, Indiana; Jordan, husband Danny Ritzema of DesPlaines, Illinois; and Brook and Leigh Ann Barnett of Ballwin, Missouri.
Her life was further blessed with four precious Great Grandchildren: Jackson and Eliana O’Connor of Palmyra, Missouri; Margo (“MJ”) Steinbrueck, of Whitestown, Indiana; and Oliver Ritzema of DesPlaines, Illinois.
Joann was a dear sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt, cousin and dearest friend to many.
Joann was preceded in death by her three dear sisters: Lois Boemer, Marlborough, Massachusetts, Ruth Koenig, Irvine, California, and Carol Hoffmann, Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Joann graduated from Lutheran High School (Central), Lake and Waterman, St. Louis, Missouri, in June 1954, along with her husband, Leon. They were married on December 29, 1956.
After raising her family, Joann enjoyed administrative work in various capacities including St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hannibal, Missouri; McGraw Edison, Columbia, Missouri; KDEX Radio, Dexter, Missouri; and served as Dexter’s City Clerk for 18 years. She was a Certified Member of the International Municipal Clerks Association. After retirement, Joann worked part time with Bagby Investment, Dexter.
Joann loved music, most notably by playing the piano since she was a child. She was also a member of the Choral Choir at Chapel of the Cross-Lutheran Church.
Family was her greatest joy in life and she felt blessed in numerous ways.

The “Celebration of Entrance Into Eternal Life Service” will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 21, at Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church, 11645 Benham Road, St. Louis, MO 63136. The family will greet guests beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
Joann was a dear friend to me for 35 years. I am saddened that her life on earth is over, but happy that her body is now whole and she is resting in God’s arms. Joann was the instrument that God used to get me back to His house and to make sure our boys heard His word. I will always remember her kindness and ability to find something good in every situation. Prayers for all who mourn her.
I barely new Joann, having met her at our grandson and Jordan’s wedding, but we had an instant connection. It was like we could be best friends if we lived closer. She was a strong Christian and passed that down to her family. Our plans don’t always coincide with God’s plans so we will always remember our short friendship and look forward to meeting again in God’s home. Blessings and prayers go to her husband and the rest of the family.
