Joseph Laurence Colonna
Joseph L. Colonna of Florissant died peacefully at the age of 92 on August 25, 2021 at Mother of Good Council Nursing Home. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Genie Colonna (nee Hettel) in December 2020. Joseph was the oldest son of Italian immigrants, Pasquale Colonna and Leona (nee Brunelli).
Beloved father to Michael Colonna (Janet), Christine Brazzle (nee Colonna), the late Matthew Colonna, and Andrew Colonna (Andrea). Dear Grandfather to Rachel, Allison, Matthew and Angela Colonna. Uncle, cousin and friend to all he met.
Joseph is survived by his older sister, Theresa Shurig (nee Colonna), and his younger brother, Lawrence Colonna (Elizabeth). He was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Koehler (nee Colonna).
Joseph served in the US Army at Fort Belvoir, VA in the mid 1950’s and retired from McDonnell-Douglas Corporation in 1987 after over thirty years of employment. He was a senior budget analyst on many important aerospace projects during his time there. Joseph was a devout Catholic and active in St. Rose Philippine Duchesne and Our Lady of Fatima parishes in Florissant for many years. He was an avid bicyclist, music enthusiast and loved to travel with his wife and kids. He enjoyed life to the fullest in his 92 years.
Services:
Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Parish in Florissant. Visitation from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. in the Church vestibule prior to mass. Private burial service at Sacred Heart Cemetery following the mass.
