Derrick J. Whitmire
Derrick J. Whitmire, 66, of St. Louis, MO passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Whitmire; father and mother-in-law, Harold and Dorothy Thompson; and brother-in-law, James Thompson.
Derrick is survived by his adoring wife and best friend of 44 years, Jeanne (nee Thompson); four sons, DJ (Sheri) Whitmire, Tom (Lisa) Whitmire, Tim (Stacy McBroom) Whitmire, and Mark (Heather) Whitmire; mother, Cornell Whitmire; siblings, Mark (Jeanne Maron) Whitmire, sister-in-law Donna Thompson; six grandchildren, Caleb, Carson, Tyler, Cora, Jonah and Hattie; the naughtiest puppy ever, Rocket; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Derrick lived a very full life and put his family first in everything. He had a passion and talent for fixing things, especially cars. He could fix anything and would do anything for anyone. He had a heart of gold and a passion for his career at Bi-State/Metro. He loved giving his boys nicknames, and his grandkids nicknamed him “Pawpaw Choc”.
Derrick’s family will always have fond memories of him. He and Jeanne took many amazing vacations including cruises to Alaska and the Mediterranean. DJ will always remember going for Friday slushies after summer camp. Tom aka “Tommy Tiger” will remember his dad watching him play baseball, giving out pointers, and being an unofficial coach. Tim aka “Little Louie” will always remember their trip with Caleb and Carson to Disneyworld. Mark aka “Skunk” will forever remember staying up late and watching the 3 Stooges with his dad.
Derrick will remain in the hearts of every person who had the honor of knowing him. Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, Sept. 19th from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Bohrer Park at 5705 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63128. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.
Jeanne I am so sorry for your loss. I am now living in Florida full time now so I can not attend his celebration of life. I will be keeping you and your kids in my prayers. I don’t have your home address, so I am sending this through your invite. I will reach out to you via phone after this event. Sending you hugs.
I never had the pleasure of meeting this amazing man but I do work with his son and Tim has a character like his father. My thoughts and prayers to your family!!
