MATTHEW FRANCIS BENNING, b. (11/19/1962) of Florissant MO, passed away Monday, August 23, 2021 at the age of 58. Beloved x-husband of Darlene Ann Benning (nee Diedrich); cherished son of the late John (Jack) Francis Benning; and Charlotte Joan Benning (nee Silver); devoted father of Matthew John Benning; Megan Justine (nee Benning) (Andy) Repking; Mallory Joan Benning (Mikey Tracy, fiancé); Natasha Lynn Whitlock (step-daughter); loving grandfather of Connor Benning, Aiden Repking, Dallas Repking, Paisley Repking, Ryder Tracy, Axel Tracy, Harley Tracy, Selena Flores, Hayden Mclaughlin, Aubrey Burton; dear brother to Maureen (David) Colvis; Mark (Debbie) Benning; Michael (Patty) Benning, Miles (Beth) Benning; also survived by nieces and nephews, Shannon (Joshua) Carico, Sherry (Doug) Wideman, Jonathan (Autumn) Colvis; Mark Benning, Jr., Christopher Benning; Michael Benning, Jr.; Jackie (Jason) Pelton, Caitlin (Scott) Bunkhorst, Courtney Benning; and many many dear friends.

Matt was a loving father and grandfather to his children and grandchildren. Family was very important to him. He looked forward to many family Sunday dinners we had. It became a tradition until Covid hit. Matt loved animals and his dogs. Matt loved to sit out with the neighbors in the evenings after work and he was always the life of the party. Matt always made people laugh and was very quick witted. Matt was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorial or donations may be made in Matt’s name to Stray Rescue of St. Louis and to the Humane Society of St. Louis.

A celebration of his life will be held at Irma Jean’s Restaurant and Sports Bar at 2109 Charbonier Rd. Florissant, MO 63031 on Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 2 – 5 pm.
