Dorothy R. “Dotsie” Reckenberg

Reckenberg, Dorothy R. (Dotsie)

4/18/1921-1/29/2022

Beloved wife of the late Francis Reckenberg.  Dear mother of Dennis (the late Penny Lawson) James, Grandmother of Nicholas (Rebecca Thornhill) James. Former mother-in-law to Susan James. Favorite Aunt to caretaker Sherry Scott, Dear Aunt, “Aunt Grandma”, Great Aunt, Cousin, and treasured friend to many.

Dotsie, as known to family and friends, was born to George and Josephine Franck. Her siblings, Helen Ochsenknect, Lillian Swor, Georgia Meyer, and Norman Franck preceded her in death.  She loved her family and wide circle of friends, including some of Dennis’ childhood friends, in touch with her throughout the years. One dear friend she met in an airport terminal, launching a life-long friendship. Another dear friend, Jane, visited her weekly and spoke with her daily. With her incredible memory, she shared countless stories laden with her playful sense of humor. She kept photos and notes of the adventurous trips she and Frank took Nicholas on all his visits. She never left her home (or apartment) without looking perfectly stylish and color coordinated in clothing. Even at 100, she always made sure she polished her fingernails. Coming from a very creative family, her favorite creative outlets were violin, painting, needle pointing, and decorating cakes.  There was a special place in her heart for the Cardinals – the baseball team and the birds!  She will be missed by many who loved her.

Memorial Service for her will be held Monday, February 14 at Christ the King Community Church, 9018 Big Bend Blvd., Webster Groves, MO 63119 at 10:30.  A luncheon, provided by her son, Dennis, will follow the service.

For these who are unable to attend the service, it will be live streamed on CTKCOMMUNITY.

I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She always sat across the aisle from me at Church and was always so friendly. We use to talk about the Cardinals Baseball team. She was always so proud of her Grandson when he would bring her to Church.

Good bye and Farewell to you, Dot–Wishing you peace, happiness, birds to watch, people to embrace.
So glad you lived all these years, even though you never felt like you were “that old”!
I didn’t always agree with your priorities and expectations, but was grateful for your positive, cheerful outlook, sense of humour and the heartfelt appreciation you so often expressed to those around you and beyond. I’m so glad we shared a World’s Fair eclair or two (or 3).
Much love and hugs to you, Susan

Rest In Peace Dotsie. Thanks for sharing your memories of the man who was my father, and your beloved husband. Your warmth and generosity of spirit helped me understand my father. Bless your heart and soul. Mary Reckenberg.

I first met Dot years ago when we were neighbors in Newport, RI. Our husbands were in the Navy, serving on the same ship.
Our friendship began then and has lasted over the years…I will truly miss our telephone conversations.
    Bye for now.
    Your friend,
    Dorothy
