Conrad Damsgaard Jr

Conrad Damsgaard Jr, 88, of Ballwin, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2022 at Mason Pointe Long- Term Care in Town and Country. He had been in hospice care since January. He was born in Chicago on April 27, 1933 to Conrad and Ingeborg Damsgaard.

He met his late wife, Pat Carlson Damsgaard at their beloved alma mater, Illinois College in Jacksonville IL. They were married in 1955 and enjoyed 59 years of marriage.

Together, they lovingly raised three daughters, Susan Damsgaard Brand of Kirkwood, Kristine Damsgaard of Albuquerque NM and Beth Damsgaard Rodriguez (Romain) of Glendale. He was the proud and much involved grandfather to Zachary and Rachel Brand, and Jacob and Andrew Rodriguez. He leaves behind his loving companion of several years, Denise Rubin. He was predeceased by his sister Bertha Damsgaard Pellegrino and nephew, Troy Pellegrino.

An enthusiastic salesman all his life working for such companies as Shell Oil, Swank Motion Pictures, Psychological Associates, he retired from Zenger Miller.

In retirement, he enjoyed life to the fullest. He played golf with a passion, he traveled the world, he loved the theater and symphony outings, and had a music collection that was the envy of any Jazz lover. He enjoyed his regular Tuesday night outing with “the guys” where every week, they solved every world problem over beers. He volunteered at Parkway United Church of Christ in many capacities. He served on the board of The Shephard’s Center, he read to pre-K children in the Ready Readers program and volunteered at the Soup Kitchen at Pilgrim Congregational Church every week until the pandemic shutdown.

His greatest joy was his volunteer work for Illinois College and Phi Alpha Literary Society. He served on several boards of both the College and Phi Alpha to promote the growth of each.

Con was deeply loved by many. And he loved his family and devoted himself to them fiercely. He will be missed. There is a lot more laughter in heaven today!

I’m sorry to hear of Conrad’s passing. Conrad was a tremendous help as a trustee of Phi Alpha and helped guide us through a troubled time. He taught us a lot in his time with us. Rest in peace brother Phi. On and Up.
