James “Diamond” Channell

James “Diamond” Richard Channell, born August 31, 1929 in Coalton, Ohio passed away March 7, 2009. Beloved father of Terri Brewer and grandfather of Shawn Brewer Baker of Anna, Ohio, and Marcus Brewer of Dayton, Ohio. Great grandfather of Matthew Brewer, James Brewer, John Gabriel, Hailey Baker, Chandler Baker, and Zachary Denham.

James was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Roofers Union in St, Louis, MO.

Dear friend of many, many St. Louisians and Ohio Buckeye fans.

    Diamond will forever be in my heart and my family’s heart and we will never ever forget him. It has been a privilege and a blessing to be in his life. Diamond now has his wings. My God bless Diamond’s family and friends.

    Diamond, and Family:

    What a great friend you were to me. I will never forget your laughter, smile, and all the laughs we shared. I will always cherish my St. Louis Cardinal Christmas ornament. But most of all, I remember sitting w/you at, (I mean outside) of Fox Park, watching the best ball players ever! and giving the umps a piece of our minds. Tell all my friends up there “hello” and be nice!

    Scumbag my friendly nickname for you, you were more of a father to me than my own. From the time that I met you when my Mom, Gale Knowles, introduced us, you have had a special place in my heart. I cherish all the times that you took me out to eat, helped me at the batting cage, cheered me on during my bike rides, walked with me around St. Francis Park, watched after me whenever I stayed out late on a date, and looked after me because I had no family in St. Louis at the time we lived next door to each other on Devonshire Ave. You were the best! You will be forever in my thoughts. When we meet again, I’ll wear my 23 Cardinals shirt. Love you, Lynn Bubbles Knowles Mills

    Diamond was my FAVORITE kinda sorta Uncle. He’ll always be in my heart! Whenever my family talks about him I’ll always remember his nicknames for all of us ( Me”Kayla”- Katie My sister”Taylor”- Tater Tot My Grandma”Delores”- Dee Dee and many more). Diamond will always stay in our HEARTS!!
