On August 5, 2022, Rev. Daniel Philip Vititoe Jr, 92, of Troy, joined his beloved wife, Marie, in the arms of Jesus. Dan was born July 20, 1930, in St. Louis, MO to Daniel and Margaret (Gladson) Vititoe. Dan served in the US Army from 1951-1953; after his discharge he received his calling to the ministry and studied toward that goal at Hannibal- LaGrange College where he met his future wife Marie Wickell on a blind date.  They married on August 25, 1956, and shared sixty years of life together, raising three children, Steve (Elizabeth) of Ellijay, Georgia, Pam (Jim) Landon of Mentone, IN and Patricia Hobson of Troy, MO.  Dan had one grandson, Codi Hobson and three great grandchildren; a foster son, Tomas (Patricia) Ortiz, and grandchildren Carlos and Gabby Ortiz of Palmdale, CA. 

During more than three decades as a pastor he served six churches full time, Barrow Baptist Church, Roodhouse, IL; Berdan Baptist Church and Mount Gilead Baptist Church, Carrollton, IL; Raritan Baptist Church, Raritan, IL; Metea Baptist Church, Lucerne, IN and Greenfield Baptist Church, Greenfield, IL.  When he retired, he returned to Missouri to be closer to his family. During his retirement he stayed active serving as an interim pastor at Bethel Baptist Church in Jerseyville, IL and Godfrey Baptist Church in Godfrey, IL.  He also served as a Chaplin at the Lincoln County Medical Center.  From 1975 – 2013 he organized and led multiple mission trips to Central America, the majority in Costa Rica, where he worked to better the lives of others. 

His idea of heaven on earth was a trip to Montauk State Park where he and Marie would spend hours fishing for Rainbow Trout.  They also enjoyed traveling, both in the United States and internationally.

His parents, brother David and sisters Eileen Mosley, Phyllis McCarter and Loraine Boyer were waiting for him as he entered eternity.
