Thomas Lydon
Thomas Anthony Lydon, 78, of St. Louis, MO passed away on November 12, 2022, after a seven-year battle with Dementia. Loving husband of Elaine Lydon (Northam); beloved father of John (Colleen) of Jacksonville, FL and Chris (Kara) of St. Louis; beloved Pop of Patrick, Ryan, Riley, Delaney, Kate and Sullivan. Tom was the third child of Francis and Virginia Lydon who preceded him in death. He is survived by sisters: Mary Ellen (the late Thomas) Braznell and Barbara (Burnham) Tinker. Tom was a loving and cherished cousin, uncle and friend to many and will be dearly missed.
Tom was born and raised in St. Louis where he attended Little Flower grade school, CBC High School (’63) and he earned his bachelor’s degree in finance at Saint Louis University (’67). Tom went on to a successful career in banking and financial services where he worked in the bond business, focusing on sales and trading. In 1969, Tom and Elaine were married and Tom’s jobs took them to Washington DC, New York City and Columbus, Ohio. In 1979 they moved to the Chicago suburb of Olympia Fields where they planted roots for the next 17 years to raise their boys. In 1996, Tom had the opportunity to return to St. Louis where they spent the next 10 years reuniting with many close friends and family. In 2005, Tom and Elaine retired and moved to St. Joseph, Michigan where many great memories were created watching sunsets over Lake Michigan with friends and family. It would be unfair not to mention golf, which was Tom’s passion outside of his family and friends. Whether it was spending time with friends or colleagues, teaching his family to play, or collecting putters, you could always find Tom at one of the clubs he was fortunate enough to be a member at over the years.
To know Tom was to love Tom. He truly did not know a stranger. He was fun-loving, quick with a handshake often followed up by a joke. Many close to him were fortunate enough to be a victim of one of his well thought out pranks. Tom was involved in his community, often coaching his kids’ sports, supporting charities and the kids’ schools. He loved socializing with his neighbors, friends and colleagues, whether it be on the golf course, toasting good wine or talking politics. Professionally, Tom was great at networking and using his love for people to create new business connections, mentor and develop newer colleagues and create opportunities for people. As a bond trader in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, Tom spent a lot of time on the phone, which allowed him to hone his skills of joke telling, as well as his admirable personal habit of keeping in regular contact with those close to him.
Visitation is 1pm and the Funeral is 2pm on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Mary, Mother of the Church, 5901 Kerth Rd, St. Louis, MO 63128. Everyone is invited to a reception to celebrate Tom’s life in the Church’s reception hall immediately following the service.
Great friend, gone too soon. Let’s all raise a glass to Tom wherever you may be.
Thank you and Elaine for all the great memories – Labor Days on Lake Michigan, Frank, Superman, the CBC cheerleader, and many many more laughs. Thank you for the great times. We love you and miss you Uncle Tub, but we will never forget you.

I grew up with Tom going to Little Flower and CBC with Tom. I hadn’t seen him for several years until we ran into each other at Beffa’s. We renewed our friendship and discussed many good times growing up together.
Tom was a genuine, trusting person
Rest In Peace Tom!
This is such a sad time for Elaine and her family.
We shared some special evenings with Tom and Elaine at his sister Barb’s house.
Such a fun loving man.
Our prayers and condolences are with you all.
As is said, “He saw the face of God and is happy and whole again.
Love from the Amjad family.
