Tilden McCommas
Mr. Tilden F. (Mac) McCommas, of 1 Elm Court in St. Peters, MO, formerly of Plainfield, CT died unexpectedly Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He was born July 5, 1941 in Excelsior Springs, MO. His parents were the late Ray F. McCommas and Mabel McCommas, of Branson, MO, who survives him. He was the brother of Dr. Donald Crowley and his wife Alice, also of Branson and their son Owen Crowley.
Mr. McCommas was married May 28, 1977 to his wife Karen, who survives him. He is survived by his son, John McCommas and partner Julio Nieves of Willimantic, CT, and daughters Sheila Morgan and husband Scott, of Pittsfield, NH, Jennifer LeDuc and husband Richard of Putnam, CT, and Shelley Shabenas and husband James of Plainfield, CT. His greatest joys were his grandchildren, Adam Shabenas and wife Jade of Crestview, FL, Jacob, Zachary, and Nickolas Shabenas of Plainfield, CT, and his granddaughters, Madeline and Sophia LeDuc of Putnam, CT. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law Nancy Haberek and her husband Frank of Port Orange, FL, his sister-in-law, Cynthia Garrison, and brother-in-law, Alan Plue and their respective families.
Mr. McCommas was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving mostly as a submariner. He graduated in 1969 from Eastern Connecticut State University, with a Bachelors Degree in Biology. In 1977 he co-founded Eastern Aquanalysis, an environmental laboratory, where he was the laboratory director. He retired in 1996. He enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and loved watching college football games. His favorite vacations were taking cruises with his wife and family.
Mr. McCommas was a past president of the Danielson Rotary Club, and in 1995 received Rotary’s highest award, the Paul Harris Fellowship Award.
