Daniel Martin Burnett

December 3, 1968 – March 30, 2022

Daniel (“Dan”) Martin Burnett was born to Louis Everette Burnett and Ione Erma Burnett (née Winter), in St. Louis, Missouri, the youngest of four children.

Dan had a very solid career as an IT professional, working primarily in desktop support.  He never talked down to end users, and always treated them with respect, regardless of their technical proficiency.

However, deep down, his true passion was baseball.  Dan had a GREAT baseball career.  He was truly a student of the game.

In his senior year at Metro Academic and Classical High School, he was an All-Metro baseball player in the St. Louis area.  At Metro, he lettered in baseball, basketball, and cross country.

His baseball success at Metro landed him a scholarship at St. Louis University.  After graduating from SLU, he played several years at the semi-pro level for the St. Louis Wildcats, primarily as a catcher.

On February 27, 2022, Dan received the recognition he richly deserved for his illustrious baseball career by being inducted into the National Semi-Pro Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.  His father, Louis Burnett – a great catcher in his own right – also got his recognition, and was inducted posthumously with him.

In the years after Dan’s retirement from baseball, instead of pursuing head baseball coaching opportunities, he decided to take up a new sport:  bowling.  And he became good at it VERY quickly.  In fact, as an amateur, he bowled TWO perfect games!  He also bowled an 800 series (800+ points in a 3-game series)!  On weekends, he loved watching PBA (Professional Bowlers Association) tournaments on TV.  In fact, he often mentioned how great it would be to bowl professionally on the PBA Tour.

Dan was preceded in death by both parents, Louis and Ione Burnett.  Left to mourn his loss are brothers Scott and David, sister Lisa, nephew Keith (and Keith’s family:  wife Ashley, and sons Reggie and Carter), niece Kristin, his dear friends and brothers from the St. Louis Wildcats, and a multitude of friends, family, classmates, and teammates who loved him.

Rest in peace, Dan.  We love you.
