Gus was preceded in death by his parents and only sibling Delores “Dee” Dupree.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by 8 of her 11 siblings.

Devout Catholics, they were parishioners of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for 60+ years. Both volunteered regularly for multiple events such as the Fish Fry’s, School picnics, & Turkey Shoots. Gus was a coach for various SFA sports teams and Shirley worked in the SFA school cafeteria for many years, served as the chairperson of the Giving Tree and was also a member of the funeral choir.

Gus proudly served as a US reservist, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and worked for Union Electric/Ameren until his retirement. He was a storyteller, singer of silly songs and a lover of history.

Shirley was the eldest of her siblings, helped her parents in the home and also worked as a telephone operator. After marrying, she became a homemaker raising their own 7 children. After retirement she volunteered for Feed My People. She was kind, compassionate, open-minded, ‘mom’ to scores of other kids and the heart of our family.
Although their house was small, they always had space for one more.
They found great joy in attending as many events as possible involving their children, grand and great grandchildren. Family and friend to many, they will be greatly missed.

A visitation and memorial mass will be held for Gus on January 14, 2023, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church beginning at 9 am, mass at 10 am.
