Gerald W. “Jerry” Lindhorst
Gerald W. “Jerry” Lindhorst, passed from this life to the next, surround by love on Jan. 11, 2023, at the age of 82, following a 10-year battle with multiple myeloma. Born in St. Louis, MO and preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Evelyn (Winkler), sister Karen, and son Jay Lindhorst. Survived by his wife, Kathleen Eagan, son Jeffrey (Chris), and grandchildren Zeke and Willem, and sister Gayle (Craig) Mountain, niece and nephews. And truly missed by the whole Eagan Clan.
Cyclist, naturalist, fisherman, traveler, gardener, author.
Jerry began his professional career at the St. Louis Globe-Democrat as an investigative journalist and political reporter. He later started his own public relations and communications firm. He ended his professional career as the National Director of Communications and Public Affairs for Centene Corp.
Following retirement in 2004, Jerry earned a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, won 9 gold medals in cycling time trials at the Senior Olympics, completed two 100-mile MS bike rides and, over ten years, raised thousands of dollars for the Siteman “Pedal the Cause”. Writing in the early morning hours, he authored a murder mystery involving environmental issues of our time.
He spent many happy hours outdoors volunteering with the Confluence Chapter of the Missouri Master Naturalists, serving as president for 5 years. As an avid fisherman, Jerry would take any opportunity to stand knee-deep in a rushing stream to catch a big one.
His family would like to thank the Siteman Cancer Center health professionals for always striving to “keep him on his bike”. And for the gentle and loving care provided by the wonderful staff at the BJC Evelyn’s House Hospice during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, please take a bike ride, plant a tree, feed the birds, become an activist in the environmental movement. Or make a donation to the Missouri chapter of the Sierra Club (sierraclub.org/missouri), Missouri Coalition for the Environment (moenvironment.org/get-involved/donate) or Operation Food Search, Operation Backpack (operationfoodsearch.org) in his honor. There will be a private Celebration of Life at a later date.
Sincere condolences to Jerry’s family. We were classmates at Jennings High school, Class of 1958.
Jerry was one of the first to welcome me to Jennings High in the summer of 1956 and have remained friends since. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Kathleen.
worked for Jerry at LKW in the CWE…he was a great mentor.
Another “Good Old Jennings Boy” has passed.
Rest in peace Jerry
Jerry was a Renaissance kind of guy who will be missed by many, especially by his amazing wife who recognized an equally multi dimensional human when they met years ago. Our sincerest condolences to Kathleen especially and to the many people touched by Jerry’s life and activities.
A great man who has been a true friend to so many, including my dad and myself. The strength he provided to us all in his caring ways will be forever grateful.
