Barbara Dorothea (Brown) Hall
October 6th, 1932 — January 14th, 2023
Barbara Dorothea Hall (Brown), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin, died peacefully after a short illness Saturday, January 14, 2023, at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis County. Barbara was 90 and led an active life with many interests, hobbies and pursuits centered around family and friends.
Her immediate survivors include husband, John W. Hall; son Matthew (Sally), granddaughter Natalie Hall Chardonnet (Robin) and great grandchildren Zoe, Luc and Leo Chardonnet, and granddaughter Hannah Hall (Tess Richey); and son Andrew (Lisa), granddaughter Erin Hall Eilau (Dylan) and great granddaughter Leighton, and grandchildren Ellen, Brian and Jacob Hall. Barbara was preceded in death by her firstborn son, Brian Hall (Jeremy Lisitza).
Barbara came from a large close-knit family and loved family reunions. She is also survived by brothers Frank, Woodson (Sonja) and Eugene (Donna) Brown and cousin Cherril Wehmueller McMillian (Kent). She was preceded in death by beloved brothers and sisters Kathleen Greenwood, Dolores Bixler Stevens, Joann Stowe, Ivol Brown, Patricia Belford Malone, and Robert Brown.
Born in St. Louis to parents Emma (Wehmueller) and Harry Brown, Barbara attended Central High School in St. Louis and entered the United States Marine Corps in 1953. While stationed in North Carolina, she met John, a fellow Marine also from St. Louis. The two married in 1955 and resettled in St. Louis where they worked and raised their family.
Although a dedicated working professional as a longtime secretary at Emerson Electric Co. and McDonnell Douglas Corp., she was passionate about family and friends. She was a fastidious note taker, affectionately known for captioning the details on the back of all family photographs. She loved to dance and play bingo. She was a fan of traditional country music (particularly Charlie Pride and Patsy Cline). She enjoyed family poker games and had her own “system” for playing slot machines at casinos.
As a child during the Great Depression, she cherished summers spent with beloved sister Dolores on the New Haven, Mo., farm of their maternal grandparents, Louis and Dora Wehmueller. She loved to cook, particularly authentic Italian cuisine learned by heart from her very close lifelong friend Pearl Palmisano. Pearl’s daughter, Aggie, served as the flower girl at Barbara and John’s wedding.
Above all else, Barbara had a passion for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. She watched every televised game, dutifully capturing the outcome and key stats in her daily calendar.
Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
