Donald Chamberlin

Donald Fruehauf Chamberlin Sr. passed away peacefully, February 2, 2023, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Don was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan and was a graduate of Grosse Pointe High School (‘54) and Michigan State University (‘58). He raised his family, and maintained his financial business in Grosse Pointe until 2005 when he moved to St. Louis. Don was very proud to be one of the first people in the country to receive his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation.

He was very passionate about helping others. During his business career, Don served on many boards, including Fruehauf Trailer Company, Boy Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, Asher Student Foundation, Grosse Pointe War Memorial,  Japhet School, University Liggett School, and The Leelanau School.

His love of baseball led him to coach in the Little League and Babe Ruth Leagues with great success. As a fan he loved the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals.

Don was a life-long Christian Scientist and was an active member at both Sixth Church of Christ, Scientist, Detroit and later in life at First Church of Christ Scientist, Town and Country, serving on many outreach committees over the years.

There are many friends who are grateful for Don’s sense of humor and fun nature. He was a very amateur skier, both snow and water, and a tennis player. He was also a near professional sailor and Hearts player.

He was devoted to his family as a loving husband of 62 years to Joanie, brother to Joy Robbins, father to sons Don Jr. and wife Susie, Gerry and wife Laura, David and wife Sarah, and daughter Lisa (Johnson) and husband Keith. Grandfather to Don III and wife Reshma, Sally and husband Timotheé, Andrew, Katie and fiancé Tyler, Lilly and fiancé Gabe, Greta, William, and Lucy. Great-grandfather to Nicolas, Leo, Theo, and Om. His family is thankful for his examples of kindness and dedication, and as a man of faith.

God bless you, Grandpa.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Camps Leelanau/Kohahna Foundation in Maple City, Michigan.
