Doris Fisher
Doris was born on January 9, 1928 in Savannah, Missouri and passed away on February 27, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Lela Gillispie, and her brother, Kenneth Gillispie of Savannah.
A graduate of Savannah High School, she continued her studies at what is now Northwest Missouri State University in business education. Except for briefly working in Sydney, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska, she was a high school business teacher in Missouri serving the Savannah, Boonville, and Fort Zumwalt (O’Fallon) school districts. She loved her work, so much so that she even made lists at home in the lost art of shorthand.
While teaching at Savannah High School, Doris met her future husband Bob Fisher who survives her. Before she retired, Bob began a car wash and frozen custard business and enlisted her to do paperwork and manage the frozen custard store. She doted on her family and delighted in taking the grandkids to the frozen custard store when they visited…… multiple times a day! She also loved country music and was a master of the word puzzles in the morning paper. Doris and Bob liked to travel when they could and took more than a few “mystery” trips, destinations known only by her until they were on their way.
Before dementia and a broken hip prevented her from living at home, she spent time every day checking on her friends. She was loving and kind and her family and friends will miss her sweet spirit.
Special thanks to her caretakers at Delmar Gardens of O’Fallon. They cried along with us on that last day and we will be forever grateful to them for their kindness to her. Also, thanks to Pathways Hospice for attending to all of us this last month.
In addition she is survived by daughter Dianne Fowler (Dennis) of Kansas City, grandchildren Matt Fowler (Rachel) and Kayleigh Aytes (Jason) of Kansas City, grandson Ben Fowler (Jessica) of New York City, and four great-grandchildren, Zach Fowler, Alexandra and Thomas Aytes, and Lennox Fowler.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023

Mrs. Fisher was my shorthand teacher at Boonville High School in 1968. She was so kind and patient and influenced me to eventually become a business teacher also. Prayers for Bob and Dianne. You were blessed with the best!
I always enjoyed her as a business teacher at Boonville. I think she was an influence on my being a business teacher. We will keep memories of her in our heart.
Mrs. Fisher was my shorthand teacher while at Boonville High School in the late 1960’s. Not only a wonderful teacher but also a very kind person. I always felt she had a large influence in me working many, many years in clerical work – a job I loved. Also she and Mr. Fisher came to our 45th class reunion June, 2014 which we had at our place and it was so wonderful to be able to have a few of our teachers. She and Mr. Fisher both made such a large influence on so many students throughout their teaching years.
