Michael Perks

October 16, 1967 – June 15, 2023

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Perks, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Michael, aged 55, fought a long and courageous battle with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, a genetic lung condition.

Despite enduring immense pain and struggling to breathe for the past 22 years, he displayed an unimaginable strength and resilience that earned him the nickname “Superman.”

Born on October 16th, 1967, Michael brought light into the lives of all who knew him. He was a devoted husband and best friend to Liz Perks, his rock and the love of his life. Even in his final  moments, he made sure to express his love for her, reminding her of her importance in his  world. Their bond was unbreakable, and he found solace in her unwavering support throughout his journey.

Michael was an incredible father to his two children, Jack and Grace. Jack looked up to his  father as his hero, admiring the wisdom and strength Michael possessed. The lessons Michael  imparted on Jack will forever be treasured, carrying on his legacy of resilience and  compassion. Grace, fondly referred to as “nugget” by her father, shared a special connection with him. Her mere presence would ignite a spark in his eyes, a joy that only she could bring.

Beyond his roles as a husband and father, Michael had an undeniable talent in music and art.  He possessed a versatility that allowed him to excel in these creative pursuits, whether he  was strumming his guitar or painting vibrant canvases. His creativity knew no bounds, and his artwork became a testament to his extraordinary talent.

Michael took great pride in his career as a project manager with Balke Brown. He approached his work with dedication and enthusiasm, tackling challenges with a fierce determination and an unwavering commitment to excellence. His colleagues respected him for his strong work ethic, his attention to detail, and his ability to lead with grace and efficiency.

But what truly defined Michael was his immense capacity for care, love, and compassion.  Despite his own battles with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, he never allowed it to define him.  He faced unimaginable pain and struggled to breathe for over two decades, yet he always  wore a smile and radiate positivity. Whenever someone asked how he was doing, he would  respond with his trademark phrase, “Life is good,” before turning the conversation towards  them, showing genuine interest and concern for their well-being. His selflessness was unparalleled, and he had an incredible ability to uplift and inspire others.

Michael was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Michael E. Perks, Jr. and Karen Helen  Perks. Their loving presence will forever be missed but their memories will be cherished.

We envision him taking a deep, unrestricted breath as he is welcomed at Heaven’s gates. He has earned the peace and rest that he so wholeheartedly deserves after his tireless struggle.

Michael’s indomitable spirit was an inspiration to his extended family and friends.

I am praying for you Liz and your family. Mike was a man who loved his family and friends well. I remember so many great qualities Mike exhibited but the one I loved the most was his fun loving personality. He could make a person laugh until they cried and he did that often at work. We had a lot of great times when we worked together at BalkeBrown. I pray God’s comfort and piece over you, Jack and Grace during this time.
