Peter Howard LaSalle

Peter LaSalle passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the age of 73.

Peter LaSalle was born March 21, 1950, in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Clarence and Virginia. Peter grew up on Long Island. He enjoyed the water and learned to sail. He went to the State University of New York at Stony Brook on Long Island where he would study mathematics and economics. He also met his future wife Sally in their first year of school. After graduation, Peter went on to study at Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania where he received his MBA.

Peter and Sally were married on June 15, 1974. Peter worked in the banking industry at Core States Bank, Mercantile Bank, and several consulting firms. Peter and Sally have lived in Boston; Fairfax, Virginia; and Wynnewood, Pennsylvania; but have called Chesterfield, Missouri home for the last 28 years.

Throughout his life, Peter loved to sing. He acted in a few musicals, sang tenor in the choir at church and shared his love of music, especially 60’s and early 70’s folk rock, with his children. Peter volunteered his time during tax season for 15 years through the AARP program in St. Louis to help seniors with their taxes.  He developed a special relationship with the people at Lafayette Industries because of the unique program they offer.

Peter was an avid golfer, always trying to get as much time on the links as possible. He teed up for over 5 decades. In his retirement, he marshaled at the links at the Landings.

Peter was a liver transplant recipient in June of 1998. He was forever grateful for the gift he received. He was able to see all three of his children graduate from high school and college and participate in their weddings. He was able to meet and make memories with all 5 of his grandchildren which he cherished beyond measure. His 25 years post-transplant was mostly spent enjoying golfing, volunteering, traveling to some bucket list locations and spending time with his friends and family.

As he wished, his body was donated to Washington University Medical School in St. Louis.

Peter is predeceased by his parents and brother, Richard. He is survived by his wife, Sally of 49 years; children: William (Jaime) LaSalle, Michelle (Peter Phillips) La Salle Phillips, and Suzanne (Tim) Bassler, grandchildren; Beckett LaSalle, Virginia and Annabelle Phillips, Hudson and Weston Bassler; sister: Dorothy (Keoki) Shull, and cousin: Norman (Lucy) LaSalle.

All those who knew you Peter were lucky to have you as a friend. We met through our parents who socialized together thus we spent many a summers at sleep away camps. One of your many traits which I’ve come to admire was your non judgmental attitude towards everyone you encountered. Always loved your laugh and the times spent catching up on the phone on your way to choir practice. I remember well when you told me about a girl you met in college named Sally; you were so seriously in love. You will be missed but your legacy will be carried on through your children and their children.

I knew Pete from his time at The Stony Brook School for Boys in the late 1960s. He was a dependable friend and we reconnected at our 50th class reunion in 2018. Sending my love and condolences to his family and pray for God’s peace to surround you
