Donald E. Hill

September 22nd, 1954 – September 2nd, 2023

On September 2, 2023, a bright light was extinguished when Don, 68, departed this world. It was sudden, unexpected, and left all who knew him in sorrow and shock. Devoted husband to his loving wife of over 25 years, Diane Barrett Hill. Sweet son of the late Gloria Hill (nee Colvis) and the late Jackie (Jack) Hill. Dearest father of Amy (Jeff) Bauer, Katie Eise, and Chris (Michelle) Hill. Best second dad to Blake and Dylan Luebbert.

Don and Diane shared a love of travel, the Cardinals, hosting parties and, most of all, family. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of their cherished grandchildren:  Alex, Haley (boyfriend Max Messer), Grace, Josh, and Zach Bauer. Regan, Zoe (great-granddaughter Vivian) and Sarah Eise. Ellie, Rex, and Jack Hill. Bonus grandson Gabe Pagano. They will remember and treasure how he encouraged them to be their best with his “honesty,” positive attitude, generosity, entertaining stories, poor memory on their friend’s names, handiness, creative gift wrapping, dirty looks (when needed), goofy sense of humor and fierce love for each of them.

Don was the fourth of eleven Hill children and will be deeply missed by siblings Bob (Shirley), Gerry (Terry), Susan (Rick) Stocke, Joan (Sean) Kiely, Ken (Anna), Nancy (Kevin) Flynn, Russ (Karen), John (Kerri), Gregg (Tracy), and Amy Hill.

Favorite (and only) son-in-law of the late Gloria and the late John Barrett. Favorite (and only) brother-in-law of Nancy Barrett, the late Barb Barrett and John (Rhonda Smith) Barrett. Caring uncle, cousin, and friend to everyone he met.

After working for many years in construction with his dad, brothers, son and nephews, Don ended his career at FiCON Inc. as a hard-working, smart, and quality-minded Superintendent. He was a proud, life-long member of the Carpenter’s union, had skills and was ready to use them to help anyone who needed assistance.

Don also enjoyed Diane’s cooking, hot tub moments, fishing, reading books (by male authors), and, on special occasions, dancing “The Bump.” With his radiant smile, Don lived every day to the fullest. When asked how he was, he always replied, “Best day of my life!”

Don worked for many months building a grocery store in Lahaina and was concerned about his friends there. In lieu of flowers (or tattoos), the family requests donations in his memory to People’s Fund of Maui at https://www.eifoundation.org/peoples-fund-of-maui/

Had the privilege of meeting Don when he was our site supervisor for FICON during our store construction in Lahaina. He very easy going guy and very knowledgeable at his job. We spent some time just “talking story”. I was shocked to hear of his passing and what he is doing for my hometown of Lahaina. Until we meet again. Rest in peace my friend. Mahalo Nui Loa…
