James Henry Coyle

June 27th, 1940 – October 2nd, 2023

James Henry Coyle, 83, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2023 leaving behind a legacy of smiles, humor, laughter and love that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him.

Jim was the loving dad of Cathleen (Larry) Wolff, Tracy Coyle and Suzanne Coyle, proud “Papa Jim” to Bryan Rosinski, and dear brother of Catherine Coyle, Mary Ellen (Ernie) Vishion and Daniel (Sharon) Coyle. Dear brother-in-law, father-in-law, uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend.

James was predeceased by his parents, Charles S Coyle, Virginia D. Coyle and his sister Catherine (Katie) Coyle.

James graduated from University of Notre Dame with a degree in Business Administration, June 3, 1962. He then attended the United States Navy Officer Candidate School in 1963 and was issued his commission as Ensign. He attended Naval Aviation School and earned a certification as Patrol Plane Tactical Coordinator with VP-45, and served honorably as LTJG until his discharge in 1966.

While serving in the reserves, James secured a position with McDonnell Douglas working with international contract negotiations. He later became an insurance broker.

Jim had a soft spot in his heart for stray cats, and adopted many over his life.

His favorite holiday was Independence Day and loved fireworks and things that go “Boom!”

Jim’s other passion was sports wagering. Later in life he could be found making book on football games from his nursing home room.

Jim’s journey may have reached its final destination, but his spirit lives on in the memories of those who were fortunate to know him.

Interment Service with Full Military Honors at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery on October 27th, @ 11:00 AM followed by a remembrance gathering at the Jefferson Grill in Kirkwood @ 12:30

As we remember Jim, let us cherish the moments we shared and find comfort in knowing that he is safe in the comforting arms of loved ones on the other side.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Stray Rescue of Saint Louis in his honor.

Jim was my best friend at Notre Dame. We had many good times together and I will always remember his wit and humor! May he rest in peace. Bill Donovan

We grew up together at Mary Queen of Peace grade school in the ‘50s, and our families were very close, vacationed together. Lost track of Jim after that, but I have a lot of fun memories of him as a kid.

Jim was my brother-in-law for a number of years. He was a great friend then and for years afterwards.
