James S. Rau

James (Jim) Rau passed away peacefully on October 21st, 2023.  He spent his last weeks surrounded by close family where they reminisced about Jim and everything he was.

Jim loved many things but most of all he loved his faith, family, friends, and fishing.  He was incredibly passionate about his faith and used his retirement to write Christian books and spread the word of Jesus Christ.  His family meant everything to him and he cherished everything from family vacations to watching his grandkids’ activities.  He developed many close friendships through his numerous hobbies including bible study, bridge, bass fishing, and serving his church.  He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, brother in law, uncle, friend and mentor to many.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Hoelscher Rau; his son Gregory (Alicia) Rau and his daughter Sarah (Gerald) Beckmann; cherished grandchildren Evan Rau, Leah Rau, Liliana Beckmann, Connor Rau, Dylan Rau, Wynn Beckmann, Annalee Beckmann, and Wyatt Beckmann; sister Karen Rau Rosenthal and brother Richard (Jeanne Kennedy) Rau.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  He is preceded in death by his father Howard Louis Rau and his mother June Arlene Rau.

Jim was a wonderful friend when I was with him in grade school. He seemed to be liked by everyone.

Jim was a kind, thoughtful and modest human being. We played a lot together in elementary school and I don’t believe I ever heard him say anything negative or cynical about anyone. I was happy to have seen him at our 50th class reunion and he was at peace with his life. Well done Jim!

When I think about Jim I think about his smile. He was such a kind person.Jim and I went to school together and church together. He was shy and sweet as a young man. I had the pleasure of seeing him again at our 50th class reunion and his smile was just as I remembered it. May all of the Rau family be comforted by the pleasurable memories of a full life well lived.
