Our mother Shirley (Susie) Luick Hoeffner Weber age 93 died peacefully with loved ones at her
side at Sullivan Hospital on December 31. She was preceded by her parents George Luick and
Alice Luick, her second husband Charles “Chuck” Weber (d. 2008) and her first husband Carl
“Charlie” Hoeffner (d. 1960) and her grandson Lee Sprinkle and her life-long friends Kathy
Counts and Lois Grassinger. Shirley was a hard-working daughter, wife, mother, grandmother,
cousin, aunt, sister-in-law and friend. She is survived by her two children and their spouses
Karen and Barry Sprinkle and Richard and Eleanora (Elly) Hoeffner. Her legacy lives on through
her four beloved grandchildren Nicole Sprinkle Jones, Justin Hoeffner, Sara Hoeffner McDonald,
and Jonathan Sprinkle and four great grandchildren Chase Jones, Charlene McDonald, Cole
Jones and Amelia McDonald.
Shirley was born in 1930 and grew up in South St, Louis County. She graduated in 1948 from
Mehlville High School with 55 classmates. Following the death of her first husband she would
return to technical school to train in the emerging computer technology field as a key punch
operator all while working the night shift to support Karen and Rick. She was one of the
pioneer key punch machine operators working at the National Personal Records and Archive
Center which houses the records of all discharged and deceased veterans of the 20 th Century.
Her new career led her to meet Chuck the love of her life. After retirement she and Chuck
traveled the country with family and friends visiting all 50 states. They began most mornings
with hot coffee and a game of cribbage or cards. She loved entertaining, music, dancing,
traveling with her grandkids, playing games and cards with her girlfriends and spending time at
the boats. She was a hospital volunteer, President of Post 338 of the American Legion Auxillary
and a member of the Shirley Club USA.
Her family is grateful for the loving care Shirley received at Meramec Nursing Center and
Sullivan Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Shirley’s name to Meramec Nursing Center or
Sullivan Hospital.
A celebration of life followed by internment beside her beloved husband
Chuck will be held in spring 2024 at Jefferson Expansion National Cemetery.
I have many fond memories of Aunt Shirley and feel blessed that she was a part of my life.
I remember as a little girl, she gave my 3 sisters and me barbie doll jeeps for Christmas. Oh, how we loved those jeeps!! And I came to truly treasure my Aunt Shirley as the years passed for her kindness, love and continued presence in my life. She was by far my favorite aunt.
