Jerome Douglas (Pat) Hawkins

Jerome Douglas (Pat) Hawkins, 81, passed away at Meramec Bluffs Care Center in St Louis, MO on March 4, 2024, a result of Parkinson’s disease diagnosed in 2011.

Pat was born December 4, 1942 in Hutchinson, KS. He spent his formative years in Fort Worth, TX and attended Paschal High School before completing his senior year in Burton, KS in 1961. On June 17, 1963, he married the love of his life, Sara Jane Maupin. He attended Hutchinson Community College and later Kansas State University, graduating with a bachelor in Architecture in 1966.

After settling in Hutchinson, KS, he established his own architecture and interior design business before relocating to St. Louis, MO, in 1980. There, he joined the design and build firm HBE, where he worked until 2011.

Outside of work, Pat enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He was a regular at Monday night volleyball, took dance classes at the local YMCA, and enjoyed hiking and canoeing. Pat was a skilled craftsman, often found remodeling his own home or assisting with his family’s projects. His enthusiasm for mid-century furniture was rivaled only by his dedication in mastering the art and technique of photography. Pats skill with a view camera culminated in the artful expression of black and white photography, a craft he shared and celebrated through art shows across the country.

Pat is survived by his wife Jane, children Carrie (Bob) Treece of Mount Hope, WI, and Jason (Jill) Hawkins of Westmont, IL. He was a beloved Grandpat to his 13-year-old grandson, Emmett Hawkins. Pat is also survived by his siblings, Dan Hawkins and Carol Gil of Fort Worth, TX; Sisters-in-law, Hannah (Rich) Kerschen, Trish (Mike) Allen and Lynne Hawkins; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard R. and Virginia M. (Hoskinson) Hawkins of Fort Worth, TX; his brother Michael Hawkins of Topeka, KS, and his brother-in-law Daniel Gil of Fort Worth, TX.

Pat will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of creativity, craftsmanship and love for life will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

As per his wishes, his life will be celebrated privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to express sympathy consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Pat Hawkins’ name.
