Edward Whittington
September 16, 1947 — April 13, 2024
Edward Whittington, age 77, passed away on Saturday, April 13 th , 2024, at the John Cochran VA Medical Center in Saint Louis, Missouri. Edward was the son of Cleveland Whittington Sr., and Blanche Ford. Edward, fondly known as “Rickey” by his loved ones, was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Before enlisting in the Air Force, Edward attended Talladega College where he met his soon to be wife, Beverly Field. To this union two daughters were born: Phillipa Kay and Penelope Katiti. While in the Air Force, Edward’s primary task was as a Manpower Management Technician which he later utilized in civilian life as an Efficiency Expert…making workplaces efficient. During his Air Force enlistment, Edward returned to Talladega College completing his degree in sociology and later completing his master’s degree from Webster University.
Though Edward’s degree was in sociology, his talents were varied and many. He enjoyed singing and used his gorgeous bass voice to its fullest. He sang acapella in church as well as being a member of the St. Louis Symphony IN UNISON chorus for many years.
An ordained Minister, Edward was a man of faith. He often would send daily scriptures to loved ones… ending his text always with “God Bless”. Edward had a strategy that always made him winner at card games such as pinochle and Bid whist. He loved creating his “old school” reel to reel music tapes and cassettes. His delicious cookies and pound cakes are a great memory, while his drawings and sketches were exquisite. Edward would want to be remember relaxing in his recliner, eating salted peanuts with a Pixie Stick to the side while watching an old cowboy movie… even “Blazing Saddles “one more time.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Rev, Cleveland Whittington Sr., and Blanche Whittington. His brothers and sister: Cleveland Whittington Jr., Allen Whittington, Dobbie Whittington, and Dorothy Whittington. A sister, Patricia Jefferson, and a brother James Whittington survive him. He also leaves behind a granddaughter: Taylor McCoo, and grandsons: Kenyon McCoo, Christian McCoo, Elijhah McCoo, Dylan McCoo and one
great grandchild.
We would like to thank our family and friends, near and far, for their love and kindness during this time.

My condolences to the family of Mr. Edward Whittington. I’ve just found out today about his passing since I haven’t heard from him Friday 06142024. I looked him up online and came across this link and cried for my dear friend who was also a father figure. We worshipped and sang in the church at Trinity Mt. Carmel. Will keep his family lifted up in prayer!
My condolences.
