James William Hamm

James William Hamm was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 12th, 1943 to John Hamm and Margaret Ann (Moynihan) Hamm.

He passed away peacefully at Delmar Gardens West on April 27th, 2024, at the age of 80, due to complications from Post Polio Syndrome.

Lovingly remembered by:
Brothers Bill, Joe, Tom, John (deceased)
Sisters Peggy Lefarth, Mary Agnes Gronemeyer (deceased)
Nieces Lizzy Hamm, Ann (Gronemeyer) Eck, Suzanne (Hamm) Perry, Kathleen (Hamm) Schmidt, Elizabeth Hamm.
Nephews Martin Hamm, Steve Hamm, John Hamm, Mike Hamm, Matthew Hamm, John Shepard, Robert Gronemeyer.

Jimmy’s left arm was paralyzed due to polio since he was four years old. However, he never complained, and it did not keep him from accomplishing what he wanted to do.

He attended St. Philip Neri Grade School, SLUH High School, SLU with Electrical Engineering degree, and University of Illinois with a Masters of Electrical Engineering degree.

In the late 1960s, he worked for Bell Labs in New Jersey for several years. After that he came back to St. Louis and taught math in junior colleges. He taught math when he moved to Albuquerque in the 1980s. He met a man there who had a disabled son, and Jimmy tutored him for over 10 years. The three of them became good  friends.

He loved watching/playing soccer and jazz, especially Miles Davis and John Coltrane. He also could play a trumpet and saxophone with one hand, and would buy and sell musical instruments.

Lived mostly in Albuquerque, New Mexico since the 1980s, and would come back to Saint Louis periodically by train or car.

He had a devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Services will be held on Wednesday May 22 at St. Raymond Maronite Cathedral, 931 Lebanon Dr, St. Louis, MO 63104. Visitation at 9:30 A.M., Mass at 10, followed by a Celebration of Life and Middle Eastern Buffet in the community hall next to the Cathedral.

Jimmy was a strongly independent, unique person who was also dedicated to his family. Glad to have met him several times. Condolences to his surviving family members.
