Neva J. Barker

Neva J. Barker (Carr) passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024, at the age of 93. She was born in West Virginia on April 11, 1931.  She was the daughter of Arthur and Verna Carr.

Preceding her in death is her loving husband of 58 years, James W. Barker; her infant son, Larry James; her parents; and her two older brothers Art (and wife Beth) and Vern Carr.

Neva grew up in West Virginia. After marriage, she moved to northern Ohio where she worked a variety of jobs including waitress, motel receptionist, and hair salon supervisor.   The “job” she cherished the most was that of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to travel and made that a priority once retiring to Florida.  She and James often traveled with a loving group of friends and visited 4 continents. A woman of deep faith, she was active in church throughout her life and served in multiple roles such as Bible school teacher, missions committee member, hospitality/connections, and longtime Bible study leader.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Mark Hazen, of Ocala, FL, and her son, Gary W. Barker, of Saint Louis.  She remains in the hearts of her grandchildren, Jon Hazen (and his wife, Shannon) and Valerie Jones (and her husband, Adam). Her legacy lives on in her great-grandchildren: Christopher, Benjamin, Caroline, Isabella, Nicholas, Nathaniel, and Elliana Hazen, and Joshua Jones.

A celebration of her life will occur at Webster Hills United Methodist Church, Webster Groves, MO, on Saturday, May 25, at 2pm. All are welcome.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to The Gentiva Foundation (Hospice) of Saint Louis.

Such a blessed obituary for a very very special lady who not only loved the Lord but demonstrated it in her everyday life. She was positive and spoke good of all. She was known by her works of kindness and love of family that showed her that love in return. Bob and I were blessed to have been a part of her life and her love. She lived what she believed and we are ever grateful to the Lord to have been a part of her life. Love to all.
