David Jerome Mitchell

We are deeply saddened by the passing of David Jerome Mitchell Sr, who received his wings on May 5, 2024, at the age of 65. He was born on May 16, 1958, in Fort Leonard Wood MO, to the loving union of Robert Mitchell Jr and Rosetta Thomas Mitchell, who have both preceded him in death. He was the third of four children; his brothers Stephen, Wayne and Marvin (who also proceeded him in death).

David had a zest for life and the greatest sense of humor that touched everyone he met. He always had a joke ready and a smile on his face. He was a proud graduate of Vashon High School, where he made lifelong friendships and memories.

David is survived by his beloved children: Marisha, VonLisha, David Jr, Keanan, Erica, Davion, Gerald and Madonna. He also leaves behind a host of loving grandchildren, family and friends.

I’m Free

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free. I’m following the path God laid for me.

I took his hand when I heard his call, I turned my back and left it all

I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, to play

Tasks left undone must stay that way, I ‘ve found that peace at the close of day

If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah yes, these things I too will miss

Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow

My Life’s been full, I savoured much, Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief

Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free.
