Arthur Schnatterly

Art Schnatterly was born February 4, 1947 to Harry and Lucille Schnatterly in Hays, Kansas. He was one of six children of whom Sally (Carl) Lomax survives. Passing were two brothers, Ernest (twin) and Lee and two sisters, Betty and Mary.

Art attended school in Hays, KS elementary through high school. He was on the track team at Hays High, always recalling with pleasure the relay races where he did so well. Baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church, he was also active in DeMolay and worked steadily his brother’s Mobil Station. Upon high school graduation, Art applied for and received a military deferment in order to attend college. He enrolled at Fort Hays Kansas State University. There he met his wife Marty (Martha); they were married in 1967. Working full time, he graduated with honors with a BS in Business. The college deferment ended at graduation. He was drafted into the US Army and served at four posts: Missouri,
Colorado, Virginia and Kansas. Art always joked about being “Radar O’Reilly-Schnatterly” as he served as a Company Clerk. After honorable discharge, Art went on to Colorado State University and completed his MS in Business Administration. There he got his first taste of teaching which he continued to do in numerous locations. Later he went on to the University of Utah for doctoral studies.

The pride of his life, two sons were born during this time: Aaron and Mark who were loved so much. They have grown to be fine principled, caring men who are making a difference in their world. What a joy it was to become a grandfather to Rachel and Lauren Schnatterly, beautiful young women and so loved.

Art entered the corporate world mid-seventies with positions in the area of Organization Change and Restructuring. He worked with large corporations including US Steel, Martin-Marietta Aerospace, and Hercules Chemical. As Art’s health began to fail, he retired, did some consulting, then took part time positions which he loved as it took him back to working directly with people. Moving back to the Midwest, Art and Marty lived in a St. Louis. Along with his work, Art was a member of Living Word United Methodist Church where he was involved in Bible study and mission opportunities. Art was a history buff, particularly a student of the Civil War, World History, and Biblical History. He wrote blogs sharing his faith, was an avid reader and a Cardinals fan. College sports were always the favorite to watch – football and basketball. He was interested in most everything, was a sharp cribbage player, and loved fun.
