Robert Nieberding, Jr.

Robert Nieberding, Jr. died on February 12, 2024, at his home in O’Fallon Missouri.

Bob was born in 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri which remained his emotional home throughout a lifetime of travel and professional adventures.

Bob was a golfer. He was taught by his father at an early age, developing a love for the game that spanned over 70 years. His passion for golf evolved into a lifetime of competition, accomplishments, friends and his career. With his slight draw and masterful iron play, Bob played at McCluer High School, Florida State University, the United States Marine Corp and at the highest levels of the PGA with participation in the 1981 PGA Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club, 1975 US Open at Medinah Country Club, and 1999 Senior US Open at Des Moines Golf and Country Club. Bob experienced success as a club professional as well, serving at Blue Hills Country Club (Kansas City), Bloomington Country Club (Bloomington IL), Westborough Country Club (St. Louis), Palo Alto Hills Country Club (Palo Alto CA), and as Director of Golf at the Lodge of Four Seasons (Lake Ozark, Missouri.) He was an accomplished player, coach and professional in a game loved by millions around the globe.

Bob was a loyal husband of over 38 years to his wife, Melissa. They regularly moved across the United States, entertaining friends and family, decorating their homes and, of course, playing golf. He found that the simple things in life made him most happy, evident by his love for his dogs, Max and Maggie. With daily visits to the dog park, “doggie sundaes” at night and the occasional ride on the golf cart, he took great pride in their happiness and well-being. Bob was an avid reader, most interested in suspense and mystery, and also loved the St. Louis Cardinals, closely following the team from wherever he was living at the time.

He is survived by his children, Jeffrey and Matthew, his daughter in-law, Julia, his grandchildren, Jeffrey and Eleanor, his brother, Douglas and sister-in-law, Angela.

Bob and his wife, Melissa, will be buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on Monday July 8th at 11am. A reception will follow at 1PM at Tapawingo Golf Club. All friends and family are invited to attend.

To Bob’s family, please accept my sympathies on your loss. I had the pleasure of serving with him in the Marines while stationed in Camp Pendleton in California. We enjoyed playing golf together and competing on the course. If my memory serves me well, we competed in the 1971 USMC championship at Cherry Point, NC. He was a fine gentleman and a great Marine.
