June 18, 1949 – July 8, 2024

Allen “Phil” Allbright, of St. Louis City, passed away at the age of 75 after succumbing to a serious illness. Born and raised in St. Louis City, he is predeceased by his mother, Alice Adeline Allbright, his father, Arthur Louis Allbright, his nephews, Michael Allbright and Sergio Goldberg, his sister in law, Diana Allbright, and his first wife, Janet Allbright Nugent, who gave him the beautiful gift of his son, Bryan. 

Phil is survived by his loving wife and caretaker, Nan Karl, son, Bryan Patrick Allbright, stepdaughter, Annie (John) Croak, sister, Joan (Jerry) Sullivan, brother, Arthur “Larry” Allbright and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved Shelties, Raven and Tyson, and kitties Marie and Precious. Phil was a lover of all animals but particularly enjoyed Shelties, including those who have patiently been waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for a joyous reunion, including Erin, Holly, Razz, Jazz, Hope, Colton, and honorary shelties, Panda and Lucie.

Phil retired from St. Louis City Traffic Division, where he was an electronic technician. One of his passions was spending time at his lake cabin and acreage in Mid-Missouri. Science and mathematics filled his free time, in addition to getting lost in books for days on end. He seldom left the house without his Kindle and read voraciously. He was constantly working on solving calculus equations, which were frequently found on random strips of paper in his pockets at laundry time. Phil was extraordinarily intelligent with an uncanny awareness of world history and current events. He also loved musicals and attended just about every show at MUNY from childhood until retirement. 

A celebration of life will be held for friends and family on August 10, 2024 at Eliot Unitarian Chapel, 100 South Taylor Avenue, Kirkwood, MO. Doors will open at 2:00 PM and the service will begin promptly at 2:30. Light refreshments will follow. Phil developed Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, which is a genetic condition that can cause damage to the lungs and/or the liver. In Phil’s case, he was diagnosed with end stage non alcoholic cirrhosis a few years ago and lost his life from complications. There is no cure for Alpha-1 at present but there is ongoing research. Special thanks to the doctors and staff at SSM St. Louis University Hospital and Liver Clinic for providing extraordinary care in his final months of this illness.
