Amanda Jane Schilling (Clayton)
Sadly, we announce the death of Amanda Jane Schilling (Clayton) on July 17, 2024. She passed away peacefully after living with a long illness.
Amanda was born on May 28, 1955 to Tom and NorEtta Clayton in San Antonio, Texas. She grew up in St. Louis, Missouri with her older sister, Jamie and younger brother, Tim, where she developed her rebellious spirit and love for adventure. As a teen, she spent her time reading and attending rock concerts. She later became a lab tech and worked at Monsanto. Many of her loved ones remember spending time with her at Broadway Oyster Bar- where you would find her dancing to live music and showing off a fabulous outfit.
She was an individual to her core, always forging her own path no matter what the rules or expectations were. She loved reading – most especially Wuthering Heights, Lonesome Dove, The Vampire Chronicles by Ann Rice, and anything dystopian.
She was often excited by finding a new, beautiful fabric and leaves a legacy of quilts and sewing projects. Amanda enjoyed spending time pursuing her curiosity down rabbit holes into obscure interests including bushwacking, Korean street food, opera, gemstones, the list goes on. She was an amazing cook and collected antique cookbooks.
Amanda was known for being friendly and playful. She always had an idea of how to make something mundane fun. Summer vacations with her family were often spent in Grand Haven, Michigan in memorable beach houses. We will all remember her when we look at the ocean, as she spent many treasured years living on the coast of Connecticut and she felt so connected to the water.
The family wishes to thank her nurses, who cared for her with so much love.
Mandy will be dearly missed by her children, Marshall Johnson (Heather), Cosmo Schilling, Allison Schilling, grandson Max, her sister Jamie Hanak (Gary), brother Tim Clayton (Gwynne), and her beloved friend and cousin, Laurel Norton, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both her parents and her ex-husband, Roger Schilling.
Amanda will be missed by everyone she touched.
Amanda was a free spirit who made everyone smile. She will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Marty. Allie and Cosmo ❤️
