Thomas Vogt
Thomas Gregory Vogt died peacefully on August 12, 2024 in St Louis, Missouri. He was born in Morristown, NJ, on May 24, 1956, the fifth and youngest child of Ralph and Eileen (O’Connor) Vogt.
Tommy grew up in Simsbury, CT and graduated from Simsbury High School, where he acted in numerous plays and was class president. For decades, Tommy worked in the hospitality industry, managing restaurants and tending bar, where he was quick with a smile or a funny story. Tommy had a big heart and was a loyal friend and brother. For many years he volunteered for the Veteran’s Association of St Louis where he helped disabled veterans.
Tommy loved to play snooker, cribbage and backgammon and his friendly opponents could attest to how skilled he was. Tommy was very proud of his Irish heritage. He was named after his grandfather, Tommy O’Connor, who was very involved in the 1916 Rising in Ireland and the subsequent War of Independence and the Irish Civil War. After several years of research, Tommy wrote a book about his grandfather and Irish history.
Tommy is predeceased by his parents Ralph and Eileen Vogt and his brother Ralph, Jr. He will be lovingly remembered by his siblings, Gary Vogt of Albuquerque, NM, Roger (Liz) Vogt of Lakewood Ranch, FL and Ellen (Rhody) Eisenstein of Venice FL. as well as his many nieces and nephews who always considered Tom to be “the fun uncle”.
Tommy’s remains will be buried alongside his parents in Simsbury, CT. A celebration of his life will be held in Simsbury sometime in the spring.
