Rebecca Lynn Mackie
Rebecca Lynn Mackie 1942-2024
Rebecca Mackie was truly one of a kind. Throughout her life, she was affectionately known as Becky, Reba, Becca, and of course, Rebecca. With a unique sense of humor that her children cherished, she brought much laughter to those around her. Passionate about sports, particularly hockey and golf, she found immense pleasure in following her favorite teams. Her determination and strong will were well-known, and she loved her family deeply in her own special way. After a brave battle with lung cancer, dementia, and the heartbreaking loss of her son Stephen, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by love in her daughter’s arms.
Rebecca was born in Ohio in 1942 to Russell and Elizabeth. Later, her brother Guy joined the family. Their childhood was spent between Youngstown, Ohio, and Bradenton Beach, Florida. In 1963, she graduated from the Akron General Hospital School of Nursing. Following graduation, she moved across the country with friends to California, where she became the head of the Emergency Department at a busy hospital in Los Angeles. It was there that she met her husband Norm, who would accompany her and her three children on an adventure through Georgia, New Jersey, and finally to St. Louis, Missouri. Rebecca is survived by her children, Heather and Ian, her five grandchildren: Tyler, Gavin, Trevor, Brayden, and Tanner, as well as Teagen and Quinn and her daughter’s inlaw Rachael and Dawn.
