Helen Mary McDonald
Helen Mary McDonald (née George), affectionately known as Mary, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on June 24, 1937, in St. Louis, Missouri, Mary’s journey through life was a radiant testament to love, resilience, and boundless devotion. Her warmth and enduring spirit left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her, forever echoing in her cherished reply to her children: “I Love You More.”
Mary was a woman ahead of her time. A proud alumna of Maryville University, she achieved the remarkable feat of graduating college in just three years. She later earned a master’s degree in counseling from Webster University and devoted her career to serving others as a relocation counselor. Through her work, she guided countless families through life’s transitions with compassion and care.
Her heart found its deepest joy on her beloved 100-acre farm—a sanctuary she called her “happy place.” This treasured land was more than a home; it was the backdrop for countless family gatherings and moments of quiet reflection. The memories created there remain etched in the hearts of those she held most dear.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Helen; brothers Peter and Paul; brothers-in-law Leo and James; two beloved sons, Michael (survived by his wife Cate) and Nicholas; and her former spouse, Frank “Stacy.” She is survived by her sisters Marge and Sue; brother Steve (Charlotte); ten devoted children: Frank “Mac” (Leigh), Catherine “Cathy,” Helen “Lin” (Vince), Margot (AC), Ann, Michelle (David), John, Shirley (Scott), Elizabeth “Liz/Bea,” and David; along with 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held on January 10th at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 7148 Forsyth Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63105. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass starting at 11am.
Mary’s legacy of love, strength, and compassion continues to shine brightly in the lives of those she nurtured. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who loved her.
