It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joe Alton Claussen, who died peacefully at his home in St. Louis, Missouri, on February 1st, 2025, at the age of 77. Born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma on September 23, 1947, to Homer and Lena Claussen, Joe was the youngest of three siblings. His life was rich with experiences and relationships.
Joe’s passions included boating, fishing, hunting, and horseback riding. A keen student of history, he held a particular fondness for Native Ameri-can, Texan, and Cowboy history, often sharing his knowledge with friends who, like him, cherished the classic novel *Lonesome Dove*. These friendships fostered many memorable adventures.
His career in the insurance industry spanned decades, a path that not only provided for his family but also deepened several lifelong friendships. He also served in the National Guard.
In 1977, Joe married Deborah Springs, beginning a lifelong partnership built on companionship and mutual respect. Together, they created a loving and stable home for their three children: Kevin, Jarod, and Sarah. Joe was known for his unwavering encouragement of his children’s aspirations, fostering a supportive and nurturing environment. Family summers were filled with cherished memories of boating excursions and barbeques in East Texas, punctuated by fun-filled road trips.
Joe will be remembered by his friends and family as generous, helpful, hardworking, and possessing a wonderful sense of humor. His kindness extended to others, often demonstrating selfless acts of generosity, such as assisting ailing colleagues with chores without seeking any recompense.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah; his children, Sarah Sides, Kevin Claussen, and Jarod Claussen; and his five grandchildren: Phoenix Claussen, Xavier Claussen, Simone Claussen, Emily Sides, and Beckett Sides. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Claussen. In accordance with his wishes, a private family burial will be held in Barnsdall, Oklahoma.
