
Linda Childress
Linda Marie Childress (nee Meador), 83, passed away peacefully on 2/27/2025, in St. Louis, MO, surrounded by loved ones. Linda was born on 8/26/1941, in Scottsville, Ky. Linda was preceded in death by her husbands, Marvin Bromback and Morton O. Childress; her parents Mr. John W Meador and Mrs. Lattie Ozie Meador (nee Smith); her siblings; sisters: Majorie Taylor, Annie Dial, Sylvia O’Neal, Mary Hill, Beulah Meador, brothers: Rory Meador, Lewis W. Meador, Sr., and Bennie Meador; and step-son Mike Childress.
Linda was a gentle soul, who brought joy to many people. Growing up, Linda was incredibly close to her parents, and was a beloved youngest child to the Meador clan. Most of her siblings were significantly older when she was born. Linda spent most of her childhood raised in Louisville, KY. She graduated from Atherton High School in 1958. Linda married Marvin Bromback on 5/30/1970, and spent her adult life with him until his passing on 7/28/1994. Marvin and Linda owned a farm in Shelbyville, KY. Linda loved the outdoors, and would regularly be seen tending her garden or working on the farm. Linda dedicated her working life to Southern Bell. Linda married again, to Morton Childress on 12/18/2000, and they enjoyed life together until Morton’s passing on 6/6/2017. Linda was a philanthropist who loved to serve her community, and she especially loved to help children. She regularly served at St. Joseph’s Children’s Home, and was a contributor to many various charities. Linda created friends everywhere she went, and she will be greatly missed by many.
Linda is survived by her step-daughter, Marly French (Patrick), step-sons: Marty Childress (Brenda) and Marvin Childress (Cheryl – deceased); as well as a vast number of step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, step-great grandchildren, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. There will be a family only celebration of her life.
