James Hugh Marshall

James “Jim” Hugh Marshall, of St. Louis, MO, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024, at
Barnes-Jewish Hospital, at the age of 72.

Jim was born on September 28, 1951, in St. Louis, Missouri. He was proceeded in
death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Marshall, his brother Tom, as well as Jim’s
former wives Kathleen and Reggie.

Jim graduated from Cristian Brothers College High School in 1970 and then attended
University of Missouri where he spent his spare time with friends and playing kicker for
the Mizzou Tigers. He graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration. Jim later married Heidi Ann Harmeyer. Together, they had two sons,
Josh and Zach. Though their marriage came to an end, they remained united in their
commitment to raising their children. Jim cherished his role as a father and maintained a
lifelong bond with his sons. In time, Jim found love again, marrying a few more times
throughout his life. He married Barbara Ann Yancey January 8, 2023. Together, Barb
and Jim built a life centered around love, laughter, and family. He was a proud and
loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and friend.

Jim was a devoted family man and a hardworking professional throughout his life. He
took pride in his work and found true fulfillment in the relationships he built, both
personally and professionally. Over the years, Jim held a variety of roles that reflected
his strong work ethic, creativity, and leadership. He began his career at General
Grocer’s while playing college football. He went on to work for Sverdrup, Monsanto and
Jacobs Engineering specializing in strategic procurement and project supply
management. Earning the respect of his colleagues and building lasting friendships
along the way, Jim approached each opportunity with dedication and heart. His
professional journey was as diverse as it was meaningful, and he left a lasting
impression on everyone he worked with. Jim eventually retired in 2014, allowing him
more time to enjoy the things he loved most.

Jim found joy in the simple things, a warm day in the sun wearing one of his favorite
tropical shirts, time spent gardening, playing softball at St. Luke’s field, or fly-fishing
along a quiet stream in Bennett Springs State Park. He had a deep love for travel and
was happiest with his toes in the sand, relaxing on a sunny beach with the sounds of
Jimmy Buffett playing in the background. Whether exploring new places with Barbara or
enjoying the comfort of home, Jim knew how to savor life’s moments. He was an avid
reader and a lifelong fan of Mizzou football and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. With a
sharp mind for numbers, he was always glad to offer budget advice or help solve a
tricky financial puzzle. He found joy in cuddling with his dogs, watching a good show,
and above all, spending time with his grandchildren, who were truly the light of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Ann Yancey, and her children, Thomas Wells
and his wife Tami, and their children Sydney and Tristin; Benjamin Yancey and his wife
Lauren; Abigail Mulligan and her husband Thomas, and their children Delilah and
Eleanor; his sons, Josh Marshall and his wife Emily, and their daughter Aurora; Zach
Marshall and his wife Toria, and their daughters Alyssa, Jade, and Izzy, and his great-
grandson Masyn. He is also survived by his siblings Bob Marshall and his wife
Maureen, Shirlee Kauble, Greg Marshall his wife Sherrie, and Mike Marshall and his
wife Diane; sister in-law Barbara Marshall, along with many nieces, nephews, great-
nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

Jim will be remembered for his kind spirit, quick wit, and unwavering devotion to his
loved ones. His presence made life better for those around him, and his memory will
continue to inspire all who knew him.

In keeping with Jim’s love of nature and peaceful moments by the water, his sons will
honor his wishes by spreading his ashes at Bennett Spring State Park, a place that held
special meaning for him. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the
American Parkinson’s Disease Association to support advanced Parkinson’s research.
